Jim joined the Hanover-Caroline Soil and Water Conservation District in 1999. He is graduate of Virginia Tech with a degree in Animal Science. Prior to joining the District Jim spent twenty years in the dairy marketing and sales industry with Dairymen, Inc. and later with Diversey Corporation and has more than 40 years’ experience in raising registered Angus cattle. He is a life member of the American Angus Association and a long-time member of the Virginia Beef Cattle Improvement Association and bull testing committees. In his role as District Conservation Specialist, Jim works to provide conservation assessments and conservation plans for local producers wishing to implement best management practices through the Virginia BMP Cost Share Program. He is a Virginia Certified Nutrient Management Planner, member of the Agricultural Best Management Practices Technical Advisory Committee, and a current member of the Cover Crop subcommittee. He works with many producers of crops and livestock and is a sought-after advisor in pasture and forage management. Jim has been the recipient of numerous honors, including the 2017 Honor Award from the Virginia Chapter of the Soil and Water Conservation Society and the VASWCD 2011 Chaffee Employee of the Year Award.
