    1. General Information

      Hanover County Parks & Recreation continually searches for new recreational program offerings and instructors. Thank you for your interest in offering a program to our community. In order to be considered as a contracted instructor, you must complete and submit a Program Proposal Form describing the program that you would like to instruct/offer. Programs vary depending on the subject matter, some meeting once a week for multiple weeks, some lasting only one day. 

      Please note that all Program Proposals are reviewed based on factors including, but not limited to, community demand, existing courses, previous history, location and demographics. Recreation staff will contact you regarding the status of your proposal.

    3. Responsibilities

      Responsibilities of the Contracted Instructor: 

      The Contracted Instructor is responsible for outlining the details of the program(s) they wish to instruct and submitting program proposal form(s) for consideration. Our professional recreation staff will lend their expertise on program length, location and fees, the program content is yours to create and deliver. A completed program proposal is required for each program and session.

      Responsibilities of Hanover County Parks & Recreation

      Following approval of a program proposal, the Parks and Recreation staff will work with the Contracted Instructor to determine session dates, times and locations. Once agreed upon, department staff will secure facilities, conduct promotion, collect registration and payments for all programs. All customer communication, including any agreed upon program scheduling changes will be handled by department staff.

      Contracted Instructors are not considered employees of Hanover County, they are paid a pre-determined percentage or flat rate based on the fee charged to the program participants. Payment will be issued to Contracted Instructors within 30 days of the start of a program.

    4. Minimum Qualifications and Requirements

      The Contracted Instructor must be at least 18 years of age and have at least one year experience directly related to the program that they are proposing. New instructors must include a resume with the program proposal form. Copies of certifications must be provided upon request.

      If a program proposal is approved, background and Child Protective Services (CPS) background checks through Hanover County Human Resources department are required for all instructors. Following background and CPS checks, program contracts will be generated and must be signed. Contracted Instructors are required to provide a Certificate of Insurance no less than 30 days prior to the start of the first approved session.
