1. When is summer program information available?

Parks and Recreation makes every effort to get the summer information to you as soon as possible. Look for the physical copy of the Hanover Review or the Discover Recreation brochure between the end of March to the middle of April. You can view programs online at:

2. How do you reserve an athletic field?

Athletic fields are open for organized play annually from March 15 through December 1.
The deadline to apply for field use is January 1 (for field use March–July) and April 1 (for field use August–November). Applications are considered throughout the year, with two weeks advance notice. Download an Outdoor Facility Use Application. Outdoor Facility Use Application.

3. Where are your dog parks located?

Hanover County dog parks are located at Pole Green Park in Mechanicsville and Taylor Park in Ashland.

4. Are picnic shelters available for rental?

Picnic shelters are available at the following parks: Courthouse, Hanover Wayside, Montpelier, Poor Farm, Pole Green, Taylor and Washington Lacy. Rental information.

5. What are your hours of operation?

Office hours are Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. 

Parks are open dawn until dusk, with the exception of permitted lighted amenities.

6. How do I find out if fields are closed?

8. How do I reserve a picnic shelter?

Picnic shelters are available for rental at the following parks:
- Courthouse (1 shelter)
- Hanover Wayside (2 shelters)
- Montpelier (1 shelter)
- Poor Farm (3 shelters)
- Pole Green (1 shelter)
- Washington Lacy (1 shelter)

9. Can I tour the Hanover Historic Courthouse?

The Historic Courthouse is available for tours offered through the Hanover Historical Society.

10. How do I withdraw from a recreation program?

Written notification is required for all withdrawal and refund requests. You can send in a completed refund request form or simply email us at [email protected] with the participants name, course and reason for request.
You can withdraw from a class prior to the start date and receive a full refund
Once a class has started, you may withdraw before the second-class meeting and receive a refund, less material fee.
Refunds will be issued directly to the credit card used for registration or by check (takes up to four weeks)
