Board creates Broadband Advisory Committee

The Board of Supervisors has approved a Broadband Advisory Committee. The Board expects to appoint two of its members at the November 13 meeting and five citizen representatives with expert qualifications at its December 11 meeting. The committee is expected to begin meeting in January 2020 and is expected to report back to the Board by its final meeting in December 2020.To express interest in serving on the committee, please ctyadm@hanovercounty.gov  by November 25. Hanover Master Gardeners hold Open House on Thursday

Hanover Master Gardeners will hold an Open House for those who would like to became master gardeners on Thursday, October 24, at Woodside Farm from 2-4 p.m. Woodside Farm is located at 10447 Cedar Lane, Glen Allen 23059. Master Gardeners are trained community leaders working with individuals to increase knowledge and understanding of environmentally sound horticulture. They seek to improve the quality of life in their communities through education.  Next year’s classes will run from January 4 until March 28, 2020. Hanover County Extension Office

Drug Take-Back

Drug Take-Back event on Saturday

Don’t let your unused prescription drugs fall into the wrong hands. On Saturday, October 26, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Sheriff’s Office, in cooperation with Ashland Police Department and the Department of Public Works, will conduct a Prescription Drug Take-Back Day. This event is sponsored by the Drug Enforcement Administration- Office of Diversion Control. The Mechanicsville Solid Waste Center, 7427 Verdi Ln, Mechanicsville, VA 23116, and the Ashland Police Department, 601 England St, Ashland, VA 23005, are the collection sites. Bring your pills for disposal (Sites cannot accept liquids, needles or sharps, only pills or patches). The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked.

Registrar’s Office to be open next two Saturdays

The Hanover County Voter Registration and Elections Office will have special Saturday hours on October 26 and November 2 (8 a.m. - 4 p.m.) for In-Person Absentee voting. Saturday, Nov. 2, will be the last day you can vote In-person absentee. Wednesday, October 30, is the final day you can request an absentee ballot by mail. Monday, November 4 at 2 p.m. is the cut-off for voting an emergency-only absentee ballot in the Voter Registration and Elections Office. The Hanover County Voter Registration and Elections Office is located in the Wickham Building, Room 119, of the Hanover County Government Complex. The phone number is (804) 365-6080.
