300th  Birthday Celebration Volunteers 

Hanover County will celebrate its 300th Birthday in 2020. Volunteers with all types of interests, skills and connections are needed to help with various events and activities now and throughout the coming year including events and activities at Scotchtown- May 30, 2020; Strawberry Faire -June 6,2020; Tomato Festival- July 11, 2020; Hanover Courthouse- October 17,2020.  To join us in "party" planning, promotion and other event supports, visit the 2020 Celebration page

Community: Hanover Senior Rides - Volunteer Driver

This program provides limited transportation to residents over 60 or persons with disabilities who do not have the resources to obtain their own transportation to doctors or other daily activities such as grocery shopping. Volunteer drivers are well screened and trained. They may select the schedules (individual rides) that they drive. Volunteers use their own vehicles but insurance coverage is provided. To volunteer to transport residents of Mechanicsville Area call 804-357-9360; to volunteer to transport in Ashland/Central and Western area call 804-543-6115.

   US Census Positions- The US government is currently seeking applicants for Census taker positions with starting salaries of  $19/hr and mileage.  Must be 18 or older.  Apply on line at  www.2020census.gov  or call 1-855-562-2020. 

PROGRAMS AND SERVICES


Social Services Fuel Assistance & Crisis Assistance

 Applications for Fuel Assistance will be available  through November 8th.  This program provides assistance with payment of home heating costs, furnace restarts, installation and connection of primary heat source.  Eligible households- must be a resident of the locality in which the application is made; must be responsible for the heating expense; and must meet income guidelines based upon household size.

Applications for Crisis Assistance will begin November 1 and is based upon availability of funds.  This assistance is intended to assist with emergency heating needs when no other resources are available. It is a one time only for heating security deposit; and/or heating equipment repair or purchase. Monthly income guidelines must also be met. Applications will be available at social services offices, or at the Virginia CommonHelp website.  Applicants may also receive assistance to apply by calling 855-635-4370.


Every Women's Life

The Every Woman's Life is a public health program that provides free breast and cervical cancer screens to uninsured, low income women. As of January 2019 the income qualifications were increased so that more women now qualify! To learn if you may qualify to receive a free mammogram and pap, contact the program at 804- 365-4350 or email [email protected] . If you represent an organization we also have fliers, brochures and are available for presentations or to attend your event.

Senior Connections Benefit Enrollment Center

This new program is available to persons receiving Medicare and designed to assist with application processes for benefits such as SNAP; Cooling Assistance and others.  Call 343-3000 to make an appointment.

Hanover Safe Place Candlelight Ceremony
 Hanover Safe Place invites the community to join  them celebrating survivors of domestic violence.  the event will be held on Tuesday, October 29th at 6pm at Gethsemane Church of Christ, 5146 Mechanicsville Turnpike, Mechanicsville, VA 23111.  The program will also include recognition of Hanover Fire/EMS for their service to Hanover Safe Place.  Light refreshments will be served. For more details call 804-752-2728.

Hanover County Veterans' Day Service
Hanover County's annual Veteran's Day observance will be held at on November 11th at Wayside Park, 8225 Wayside Rd. Hanover, VA 23069.  The program will be held at 2:00pm.  For more information contact 804-365-7150. 

Hanover County Offices- November Holiday Closings
All Hanover County offices will be closed in observance of Veteran's Day on Monday, November 11th. County offices will also be closed on November 28th and 29th for the Thanksgiving holiday.
