 What YOUth Can Do- 2019 Edits Underway

We are currently seeking edits or new listings for Hanover's annual volunteer opportunities list for youth. Organizations seeking youth volunteer engagement are encouraged to contact our MSW intern Morgan Pennington at [email protected]  to post your volunteer jobs. The completed listing will be available to the public on or after June 17th.


Community: Ashland Lunch Train Volunteers

 This summer outreach program is coordinated by Duncan  Memorial Church.  Volunteer prepare 175 bag lunches on Mondays & Thursdays and distribute them at various neighbors in the Ashland area. Volunteers are needed to prepare lunches and conduct "route deliveries". routes include Omni Park area, Shady Grove Motel; Henry Clay Apartments, Taylor Street area and Sedgefield.  Lunch prep begins at 9:15, deliveries begin at 10:15. Routes are usually completed by 11:15. To volunteer contact Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church, [email protected]



Community: Hanover Senior Rides - Volunteer Driver

This program provides limited transportation to residents over 60 or persons with disabilities who do not have the resources to obtain their own transportation to doctors or other daily activities such as grocery shopping. Volunteer drivers are well screened and trained. They may select the schedules (individual rides) that they drive. Volunteers use their own vehicles but insurance coverage is provided. Drivers are particularly needed in western Hanover to expand this resource across our county. To volunteer to transport residents of Mechanicsville Area call 804-357-9360; to volunteer to transport in Ashland/Central and Western area call 804-543-6115.

Youth Citizens Police Academy
 The Hanover County Sheriff's Office is currently accepting applicants for the summer Youth Citizen Police Academy which will run from June 24  to June 27.  Youth must be rising 9th to 12th grade.  25 slots are available.  Contact your school Resource Officer or the Sheriff's Dept. at 804-365-6110.

Senior Connections Benefit Enrollment Center
This new program is available to persons receiving medicare and designed to assist with application processes for benefits such as SNAP; Cooling Assistance and others.  Call 343-3000 to make an appointment.  


New Opioid Response Outreach Coordinator at Health Department
 Meet the Hanover Health Department's newest team member, Felicia Baez.  She is the Opioid Response Outreach Coordinator and is here to provide REVIVE! trainings on how to respond to an opioid overdose.  Contact Felicia to schedule a training for your church, staff or to individually register for local trainings.  Email:  [email protected] or call 804-305-5891

Senior Connections Public Comment Sessions
Senior Connections, the area agency on aging serving the City of Richmond and the seven surrounding counties, will be conducting a series of input sessions regarding their 4 year service plan to meet the needs of older adults. The Hanover Council on Aging will be hosting the first session, June 10th from 2-3pm at the Hanover Human Services Large Conference Room 12304 Washington Highway, Ashland Va 23005. Regional Housing Framework Public Meeting
The Partnership for Housing Affordability will be hosting a public conversation to focus on strategies to address housing challenges.  The Hanover meeting will be held on Wednesday, June 26 from 6:30 to 8:30PM at John Gandy Elementary School, 201 Archie Cannon Dr. Ashland, Va.
