Board of Supervisors adopts County budget

The Board of Supervisors adopted and appropriated the Fiscal Year 2020 County budget and all associated ordinances, resolutions and tax rates on Wednesday night. For the 14th consecutive year, the real estate tax rate remains unchanged. The budget increases funding for the Schools and Public Safety, funding additional deputies and firefighters. The School Board’s proposed budget was fully funded. It also includes a 3% merit raise for County and School employees.  

Pooch Pursuit

Registration deadline for "Pooch Pursuit"

Hanover County Parks and Recreation will hold its 7th annual K9 Heroes Day, featuring Pooch Pursuit event, on Saturday, April 20, at Pole Green Park from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. The Pooch Pursuit 5K run-2K walk starts at 9:30 a.m. and each registered participant in the 5K-2K will receive an event t-shirt and a pet friendly goodie bag. Awards (5K only) will be presented to the top finishers in both overall and by age group. Pre-registration and payment are required for the Pooch Pursuit. Cost is $30 per runner, $15 per walker. The deadline to register is Wednesday, April 17. Contact Parks and Recreation.

Household hazardous waste, shredding special event to be held on April 20

Mark your calendars! During a special recycling event at the Mechanicsville Refuse and Recycling Center on Saturday, April 20, Hanover County residents can bring household hazardous waste for free recycling and personal information or documents to be shredded. The hours of the event have been extended to 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. For more details, read here.
