Board of Supervisors public hearing on proposed budget

The Board of Supervisors will hold its public hearing on the County’s proposed budget for Fiscal Year 2020 at 7 p.m. tomorrow night, April 3. Along with the proposed budget, public hearings will be held on the 5-year capital improvements program, the 5-year general fund financial plan, the proposed 2019 tax rates, the proposed increase in water and sewer capacity and user fees and the proposed increase in erosion and sediment control inspection fees and re-inspection of storm drainage improvements. You may sign up to speak on the budget or other items beginning around 6:30 p.m. Board meetings can be watched live online with the archived version up on Thursday afternoon.

Planning Academy 2019 graduates

Twenty-one (21) citizens have graduated from the 2019 Hanover County Planning Academy and were recognized by the Board of Supervisors last week. Graduates learned about the planning process, the rules and regulations governing zoning and subdivisions, the legal bases for planning, planning for capital improvements, and ethics in the planning process. If you’d like to learn more or participate in the future, please call the Planning Department and speak to Tiffany Burton at 365-6169.

Shred documents, recycle household hazardous waste event coming up on Saturday, April 20

Mark your calendars! During a special recycling event at the Mechanicsville Refuse and Recycling Center on Saturday, April 20, Hanover County residents can bring household hazardous waste for free recycling and personal information or documents to be shredded. The event will be held between 8 a.m. and noon. For more information, read here.

County's running at-large laws apply countywide through June 30

Every year, beginning April 1 through June 30, it is unlawful for dogs anywhere in Hanover County to be running off their property without being leashed. The County’s “leash law” applies throughout the year in the suburban area. For more information, read here.
