Prescription Drug Take-Back Day

Prescription drug take-back event tomorrow at Verdi Lane, Ashland PD

On Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office, in cooperation with Ashland Police Department and the Hanover County Department of Public Works, will be conducting a Prescription Drug Take-Back Day event. Citizens can safely surrender their expired, unwanted, or unused pharmaceuticals and medications no questions asked, no identification required at the Mechanicsville Solid Waste Center, 7427 Verdi Lane, Mechanicsville, VA 23116, and the Ashland Police Department, 601 England St, Ashland, VA 23005. This is a free service to Hanover County and Town of Ashland citizens. 

Voter registration office has Saturday hours tomorrow

The Voter Registration and Elections Office will have special Saturday hours on October 27 and November 3 (8 a.m.-4 p.m.) for In-Person Absentee voting. Saturday, Nov. 3, will be the last day you can vote in-person absentee.

Jean C. Harris Award winners

The Hanover Community Services Board has honored several outstanding community advocates with the 2018 Jean C. Harris Award for Excellence. Honored by the CSB at a ceremony Wednesday were Melodie Fearnow-Kenney, president of a volunteer-run non-profit named Raise, Inc.; Frances Hubbard of the Department of Community Resources; and New Song United Methodist Church of Mechanicsville.

On Thursday, November 1, the Sheriff’s Office will once again be hosting a “Civilian Response to an Active Shooter” presentation. Thousands of members of our community have attended these presentations and have received a better understanding on how to respond in the event of an active shooter situation. This updated presentation will have more recent case studies as we examine how we can better prepare for these tragic events. It is designed for the individual citizen as well as business, government and community leaders.
