Board approves new Atlee Library

The Hanover County Board of Supervisors approved the conditional use permit for a new Atlee Library in the Rutland development on Wednesday night. The new two-story library will replace the storefront facility in the Atlee Square Shopping Center and will be built in the field north of the intersection of Rutlandshire Drive and Rt. 301 (Chamberlayne Road).  Construction is expected to start next spring with the facility opening in the spring of 2020. Board defers action on proposed park in Cold Harbor

Also on Wednesday night, the Board deferred action on a proposed conditional use permit for the Elton J. Wade Sr. Park at Cold Harbor; a representative from the American Battlefields Foundation indicated their interest in purchasing the property for preservation as part of the Cold Harbor battlefield. Consideration of the CUP was deferred until the Board’s October 24 meeting.

Health Department offering free flu shots tomorrow

Tomorrow, the Chickahominy Health District will be providing free flu vaccinations for anyone 6 months of age and older at Hanover High School between 7 a.m. and 12 noon. To expedite the process, those receiving the vaccines are encouraged to wear short sleeves. For more information, call the Hanover Health Department at 365-4313. Here's a video.

2018 Virginia Association of Counties Achievement Award

Hanover receives VACo Award

The Virginia Association of Counties recognized Hanover County and its regional neighbors with an Achievement Award for the 2017 Revive RVA summit held at the Greater Richmond Convention Center. Henrico County, Chesterfield County and the City of Richmond worked with Hanover to create an event that involved about 850 speakers, special guests and other participants addressing the ongoing crisis involving prescription drugs and other opioids. It’s Hanover’s 10th VACo Achievement Award in the 16 years of the program.
