Board of Supervisors meets Wednesday night

The Hanover County Board of Supervisors meets at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, September 26. Among the items on the 6 p.m. agenda are the presentation of an award from the Virginia Association of Counties recognizing last year’s RVA Regional Opioid Summit. Planning public hearings begin at 7 p.m. and include a conditional use permit for the proposed new Atlee Library and a conditional use permit for the Elton J. Wade Sr. Park at Cold Harbor. Board meetings can be watched live online or in their archived version beginning about 24 hours later.

Health Department to offer free flu vaccines on Sept. 29

The Chickahominy Health District will be providing free flu vaccinations for anyone 6 months of age and older on Saturday, September 29, at Hanover High School between 7 a.m. and 12 noon. To expedite the process, those receiving the vaccines are encouraged to wear short sleeves. For more information, call the Hanover Health Department at 365-4313. This event is being offered in conjunction with the Hanover High School Orchestra Boosters yard sale.

Deadline to sign up for CERT training

Last week and on Monday, we were reminded at how close we can be to a natural disaster. If a disaster threatens or occurs, do you know how to help your neighbors and community as well as your family? If not, you’re invited to take Hanover County Community Emergency Action Team (CERT) training classes offered on all five Monday nights in October at the Ashcake Volunteer Rescue Squad (8375 New Ashcake Road, Mechanicsville VA 23116). These classes are free. Times are from 6:30-9:30 p.m. Attendance at all sessions is necessary for graduation.
