County financial offices about to move across parking lot

On August 15, the Treasurer’s Office and the Department of Internal Audit will open for business in the Chenault-Weems Building - what used to be the Circuit Court building renovated to become a financial services office building. The Commissioner of Revenue’s Office is expected to open in the renovated building on August 21. The Department of Finance and Management Services is expected to open for business in the renovated building on August 24. The Treasurer’s Office and the Commissioner of Revenue’s office will be located on the first floor of the renovated building. On July 25, the Board of Supervisors named the building in honor of two longtime Hanover County elected officials, the late George M. Weems and Lois B. Chenault. At the time of his death in 1985, Mr. Weems had served nearly 50 years as the County’s Treasurer. Mrs. Chenault served seven terms as Commissioner of the Revenue and is the only woman to serve as a Constitutional Officer in Hanover County.

National Night Out

National Night Out is Tuesday

National Night Out will be observed on Tuesday, August 7. The goal of this annual event is to heighten crime-prevention awareness, build support and participation in local anti-crime programs, and most importantly, send a message that our neighborhoods are organized and fighting back against crime. It’s also the perfect opportunity to get to know our neighbors even better. In 2017, Hanover County ranked 12th in the nation of communities of a similar size and 1st in the Commonwealth of Virginia. If your community is planning to have an event on this night to celebrate National Night Out, or you would like more information about National Night Out, please contact Deputy Russ Beltran at 804-365-7116 or by email at [email protected] so that the Sheriff’s Office can make plans to stop by and thank your community for your support in keeping our communities safe.
