Tomato Festival gates open at 9

The 40th Hanover Tomato Festival will be held at Pole Green Park tomorrow from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. This festival is a free outdoor, family and pet friendly event. Delicious Hanover Tomato cuisine, over 150 artisan and local business vendors, Live musical entertainment, a MaterFUN play area for children featuring, rides, games and contests. Tomato Palooza is tonight from 5:30-8 p.m. – come get a taste of Hanover’s favorite fruit!

Sheriff issues traffic advisory for Tomato Festival

The Sheriff’s Office anticipates traffic congestion along Pole Green Road, between I-295 and Walnut Grove Road, due to the Hanover Tomato Festival. Citizens are encouraged to plan in advance to avoid traffic delays that will be caused by this event. “We anticipate heavy congestion in this area for this event. Deputies will be directing traffic at key intersections along Pole Green Road, as well as monitoring several others, to ensure traffic flows as quickly and safely as possible. We would greatly appreciate your patience as our deputies work to ensure the safety of all motorists during this special event,” said Colonel David R. Hines, Sheriff.

2017 Citizens Police Academy graduates

Sunday is deadline to apply for CPA

The Hanover Sheriff’s Office will be hosting its 30th session of the Citizens Police Academy from September 11 through November 13. The academy will be held every Tuesday between the hours of 6:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. at the Sheriff’s Office. There will be no cost for the participants. Those interested are urged to download an application or contact Mrs. Lisa Hancock at 365-6112. July 15 is the deadline to apply.

National Night Out in Hanover County will take place on Tuesday, August 7.  If your community is planning to have a National Night Out event on August 7 or you would like more information about National Night Out, the Hanover Sheriff’s Office would like to hear from you. Please contact Deputy Russ Beltran at (804) 365-7116, by July 15 so that the Sheriff’s Office can make plans to stop by and thank you for their support in keeping our communities safe.
