Board advertises tax abatement; considers changes to tax relief program for the elderly, disabled
The Board of Supervisors on March 8 authorized the advertisement of several items related to the proposed Fiscal Year 2024 County budget for a public hearing on April 5th. Included was the authorization to advertise a public hearing to declare a surplus in real property tax revenue for FY2023, which would enable the Board to provide a rebate equivalent to two cents on the tax rate to all real property owners who owe taxes. If approved, this would be reflected as a tax bill abatement that will be applied to the tax bills due in June. Also, the Board agreed to advertise an enhancement to the County’s tax relief for the elderly and disabled program. The changes proposed by the Board include expanding the income thresholds in each of the relief categories by an additional $5,000. These changes will provide more relief to already eligible participants and can allow for more participation in this tax relief program.
