County Administrator presents his recommended budget to the Board

Hanover County Administrator John A. Budesky presented his recommended Fiscal Year 2024 budget to the Board of Supervisors yesterday. Budesky’s budget would maintain the real estate tax rate at 81 cents per $100 valuation but he expressed a “strong commitment” to also providing relief from this year’s reassessment to residents. These options will be discussed at upcoming budget meetings. The County Administrator’s financial plan focuses on capital investments and the workforce and service levels. Col. David R. Hines, Sheriff, and Chief Jethro Piland of Hanover Fire/EMS also made budget presentations to the Board. The Board will hold another special meeting on the budget on Wednesday, Feb. 22, at 2 p.m.

County facilities closed on Monday for Presidents Day holiday

Hanover County Government offices, solid waste centers and courts will be closed on Monday, February 20 in observance of Presidents Day. Branches of the Pamunkey Regional Library will be open on February 20.

Spring open burning ban now in effect

Spring season open-air burning restrictions are now in effect. Through April 30, open-air burning is not allowed prior to 4:00 p.m. and after midnight. If you have any questions about burning, please contact Hanover Fire/EMS during normal business hours, 8:30 am – 5 pm at (804) 365-4850 or after hours at the Emergency Communications Center at (804) 365-6140 (non-emergency line). Please keep in mind that all open-air fires must be attended to at all times, the attendant must be 18 years of age, and you must have a means of extinguishment.
