Five more opportunities to engage in the Comprehensive Plan discussion

Do you want to weigh in on what you think Hanover should look like in the future? You’ll get an opportunity tonight (Thursday, Feb. 2) and next Thursday night! Tonight’s “Envision Hanover” presentation and open house will be held in the Mechanicsville Library from 6-7:30 p.m. On Feb. 9, the presentation and open house will be held at Berea Baptist Church in Rockville from 6-7:30 p.m. It’s all about the update of the Comprehensive Plan, which is the County’s long-range guide for growth and development. On Monday, Feb. 6, a webinar will be held from 6-7 p.m.; register online here. Stop and chat events, in which you can have informal discussions with the project team, will be held Tuesday, Feb. 7 at the Ashland Library from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. and on Thursday, Feb. 9, from 3:30-5 at the Rockville Library. COVID-19 home testing kits

available at library branches

The Pamunkey Regional Library is partnering with the Virginia Department of Health (VDH) to distribute rapid COVID-19 antigen at-home test kits at no cost to our residents. You can pick up free COVID-19 test kits from any PRL branch library location (library cards aren’t required) and take the kits home to self-test for COVID-19. Please note: If you have been exposed or are experiencing symptoms, do not enter the library. Call your branch to arrange curbside service or have a friend pick one up for you.

Parks & Recreation offers several events honoring Black History Month

Beginning Feb. 4, Hanover County Parks & Recreation is offering several programs celebrating “Black History Month”. On Feb. 4, 15 and 23, there will be Chair One Fitness sessions at the Courthouse complex. On Feb. 17, “An Evening with Rosa Parks” (interpretation) will be held at the Hanover Museum of History & Culture (HMHC). On Feb. 24, a wine tasting event will be held at the HMHC (advance ticket purchase required). On Feb. 25, a showing of the movie “King Richard” will be offered at the Ashland Theater. Program at PHHS on Sunday

focuses on "Untold Stories"

You are invited to join the Downtown Ashland Association, Ashland (VA) Museum, The Hanover County Black Heritage Society, INC. and Hanover Arts and Activities Center for the ninth annual Untold Stories program on Sunday, February 5 at 4:00 p.m. in the Patrick Henry High School auditorium. This year’s theme is “Shared Experiences in the Civil Rights Era." Topics include race, community, segregation and history in our community during the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s. Residents will speak about their personal experiences growing up in Hanover. The program will conclude with the Community Gospel Chorus. The event is free and open to the public.
