Registar's Office open Saturday for early voting

The Hanover County Voter Registration and Elections Office is committed to helping all eligible registered voters maintain the ability to cast a ballot in the upcoming November 8, 2022 General Election. The office will be open on Saturday, Oct. 29, from 9-5 to cast your in-person absentee ballot.

Rabies vaccination shots for dogs, cats offered on Saturday

All dogs and cats (including so-called ‘barn cats’) are required by law to be vaccinated for rabies at four months of age. For dogs, you also must have tags and a valid license proving the vaccination. Hanover Animal Control makes it easy for people to get their pets vaccinated by holding two rabies drive-through vaccination clinics this year. Vaccines will be administered at a cost of $10 per dog or cat. The first clinic will be held this Saturday, Oct. 29, at Patrick Henry High School from 9 a.m. to noon. For more information read here.

Halloween event for pups to be held Saturday at the Taylor Dog Park

“Spooky Paws” is coming to Taylor Park Dog Park for your pup this Saturday, Oct. 29, from 19 a.m.-Noon. Bring your canine companion in their favorite costume for a Spooky Paw-ty complete with trick-or-treating at the Bark Bar, costume contests and lots more!

Prescription drug take-back event held Saturday

On Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office, in cooperation with Ashland Police Department and Hanover County Public Works, will be conducting a Prescription Drug Take-Back Day. The Mechanicsville Solid Waste Center, 7427 Verdi Ln, Mechanicsville, VA 23116, and the Ashland Police Department, 601 England St, Ashland, VA 23005, have been established as collection sites. This is a free service to Hanover County and Town of Ashland citizens.  Here, citizens can safely surrender their expired, unwanted, or unused pharmaceuticals and medications- no questions asked, no identification required.  These items include: prescription medications and over-the-counter solid dosage medications (e.g., tablets, capsules, pills, etc.); and liquid products, such as prescription cough syrups (please keep sealed in original container)
