Tomato Festival returns! Tomorrow night and Saturday

Hanover’s biggest event returns Friday and Saturday and it’s focused on our community and Hanover’s favorite fruit. On Friday night from 5-9, there will be fun events ranging from a pizza race/ relay and obstacle course to a high-energy musical performance from the Inside Out Band. Saturday’s event from 9-1 is purely family-focused with numerous children’s activities. Expect tons of Hanover tomatoes with vendors making a variety of food delicacies. Hanover Public Schools CFO receives international honor

Our congratulations go out to Christina Berta, Assistant Superintendent of Business and Operations for Hanover County Public Schools, who has earned the highest honor in the school business profession. Berta recently received the Distinguished Eagle Award from The Association of School Business Officials International (ASBO), which honors K-12 business professionals from around the world for their leadership and service to their school divisions and the school business profession. Berta has served in her current position since June 2021. Berta becomes just the sixth Virginia school business officer – and the first from Central Virginia – to receive the award since its inception in 1992. As one of only three recipients of the Distinguished Eagle Award in the world, Berta will receive a $2,500 college scholarship to present to an HCPS high school student.

Patrick Henry and Thomas Jefferson to appear at Courthouse Saturday!

The next presentation of The Parsons’ Cause Foundation will be Saturday, July 16, in the historic Hanover Courthouse. Actors portraying these two Founding Fathers will discuss issues of independence, church and state, the role of government, the Constitution and more. Show times are 9:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. Each performance runs about 45 minutes. Tickets will be distributed on the date of the show on a first-come, first-served basis.
