Hanover ranked among healthiest communities in the U.S.

U.S. News and World Report has ranked Hanover County as among the 100 healthiest communities in the nation for 2022. Hanover ranks #76 on the list. Life expectancy for Hanover residents was calculated at 79.6 years, higher than the national median, and the smoking rate in Hanover (15.6%) was substantially lower than the national median of 20%. Only 6.7% of Hanoverians had no health insurance, compared with the national median of 11%. Here are more details.

Public Utilities wins state award

Hanover’s Department of Public Utilities has received the 2022 Gold Award for Excellence in Water Treatment Plant Performance from the Office of Drinking Water of the Virginia Department of Health. Doug Meyer of VDH presented the award Wednesday during the Board of Supervisors meeting. Meyer said the plant had been recognized 18 times in 18 years for its performance. “The consumers of Hanover that you represent, and I serve have been blessed with excellent water for 18 years," he told the Board. Juneteenth holiday proclamation

Board recognizes Juneteenth holiday

The Hanover Board of Supervisors recognized the new Juneteenth holiday at their meeting on Wednesday. The Board’s proclamation honors “the countless contributions made by African Americans to our county, state and nation” and noted that “Juneteenth marks the celebration of not just a moment in the past but also a renewed shared commitment to uniting as Americans to ensure equality and opportunity are a reality for all Americans, in the present and the future.” From left to right are John A.
