Prescription drug take-back event tomorrow at Verdi Lane, Ashland PD

Reminder for tomorrow, April 30 – The Hanover Sheriff’s Office and Ashland Police will provide citizens the opportunity to safely dispose of their expired, unwanted, or unused pharmaceuticals and medications- no questions asked. Items included:
• Prescription medications and over-the-counter solid dosage medications.
• Liquid products, such as prescription cough syrups.
The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Mechanicsville Solid Waste Center, 7427 Verdi Lane, Mechanicsville VA 23116 and the Ashland Police Department, 601 England Street, Ashland VA 23005.

Barton Memorial Hockey Rink Rededication Ceremony

Washington Capitals, Parks & Rec host Sunday event at Barton Rink

Join us in celebrating the rededication of the Matthew and Daniel Barton Memorial Hockey Rink at Courthouse Park on Sunday, May 1, beginning with an 11 a.m. street hockey clinic with the Washington Capitals! The ceremony will be held at 12:30 p.m. Matthew and Daniel Barton were hockey enthusiasts and the sons of Doug and Carol Barton and both died tragically, who coordinated community fundraising and donated the rink to the County more than 20 years ago. The Capitals provided new rink boards, fencing, branded flooring, and nets. The Capitals will also provide street hockey equipment and training to all Hanover County Public Schools as well as Hanover County Parks and Recreation.

Pole Green Road widening public hearing

Comments still being accepted on Pole Green Road widening project

A large crowd attended Monday night's public hearing on the proposed widening of about 1.63 miles of Pole Green Road from Bell Creek Road to Rural Point Road. The purpose of the hearing was to provide citizens and other interested parties the opportunity to review the project materials which include the plans showing proposed right-of-way and easements, environmental documents, schedule and funding. The plans and environmental documents are available on the County’s web site here. They also can be reviewed in person by contacting the Department of Public Works at (804) 365-6176. Comments will be accepted at the hearing or may be submitted to the attention of Joseph E. Vidunas, Project Manager, Dept. of Public Works, P.O. Box 470, Hanover, Virginia 23069, [email protected] Please reference “Pole Green Rd Widening Public Hearing” in all correspondence. Comments must be received by 5 p.m. May 5, 2022 to be included in the public hearing record.

Atlee Station Road widening proposal

Information meeting on proposed Atlee Station Road widening project

Hanover County will hold an information meeting on Wednesday, May 4, beginning at 7 p.m. to present preliminary roadway plans for proposed widening of Atlee Station Road between Warren Avenue and Kings Charter Drive. The meeting will take place inside the auditorium of Hanover High School, 10307 Chamberlayne Road, Mechanicsville, Virginia. The purpose of this meeting is to allow the public to have early input on the preliminary roadway design including the road alignment, intersection layouts and bicycle and pedestrian accommodations.
