Commonwealth Council on Aging 2022 Best Practices AwardsThe Commonwealth Council on Aging is sponsoring the 2022 Best Practices Award Program targeted to organizations serving older Virginians and their families. The awards will be given to innovative programs and services that assist older adults to age in the community. The Council aims to recognize creativity in services, such as livable communities, home and community based supports, transportation, housing, caregiver supports, intergenerational programming, and more. The Council believes the door is wide open for creative best practices. Nominations for the 2022 awards must be received by 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 1, 2022. The Council is pleased to support the following awards to the top winners: 1st Place, 2nd Place, and 3rd Place. The Council will also recognize up to three honorable mention programs. Mechanicsville Tax-Aide Assistance:
The Mechanicsville AARP Tax Aide site opened on February 2, 2022 in the Mechanicsville Library located at 7461 Sherwood Crossing Place. Tax-Adie offers free tax preparation and filing to older or low income taxpayers. Many individuals miss out on credits and deductions they’ve earned because they can’t afford to pay for professional tax preparation: Tax- Adie can help! The Mechanicsville site will be open on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10 am until 2 pm. Tax returns will be prepared by appointment which can be made by phone at 804-537-0662.

Real Estate Tax Relief for Elderly and Disabled
The application period for Hanover’s tax relief program for homeowners who are 65 and older permanently disabled runs from January through March 1, 2022. Homeowners must have a net worth of $200,000 or less and meet specific income guidelines. Relief is granted on a sliding scale depending on household income. Free In-Home Parenting Education
Do you know a parent or parents that could use additional parenting education and support? In-home parent education and support is available to pregnant women or mothers with children up to 5 years old who live in Hanover County. This service is provided in the family’s own home at no cost to parents and is designed to offer education related to promoting a healthy pregnancy, positive parenting skills, child development activities and knowledge of child developmental stages. The program also assists families to connect with various community resources in order to address the needs of parents and children during the stages of early childhood. The program is a partnership of Hanover County and Family Lifeline.

The Community Foundation is thrilled to announce that the 2022 Civic Circle Discussion Series starts Thursday, March 24.
Sharpen your ability to drive change in your community and build a plan to create an impact for the issues that matter most to you. Join the Civic Circle Discussion Series. Participants will come together for ten virtual gatherings, where we will take a deep dive into one of the nine elements of the Civic Circle using toolkits provided by Points of Light.
