Redistricting public info sessions

Redistricting public info sessions tonight, tomorrow night and Thursday as well as November 3

Beginning tonight at Patrick Henry High School, Hanover County will hold 4 public information sessions on the proposed reapportionment of population in County election districts. The proposed reapportionment is the result of the 2020 U.S. Census, which shows several of the 7 districts needing adjustments in population to ensure equal representation in each district as required by Virginia law. This election redistricting has absolutely no effect on school district boundaries. No formal presentations will be given. Stations will be set up with pertinent maps and other materials available for review. Staff will be available to answer questions and receive comments. All sessions begin at 6 p.m. and are expected to conclude at 7:30.

Board of Supervisors meets on Wednesday evening

The Hanover County Board of Supervisors meets on Wednesday, Oct. 27, at 6 p.m. The Board will hear an update on the ongoing 300th birthday celebration, which this year will include a Holiday Shopping Week in partnership with the Hanover Chamber of Commerce. Several Planning public hearings will begin shortly thereafter. The agenda can be read and all Board meetings are streamed live on this page, and an archived version is generally available on the same page the afternoon after the Board’s meeting.

Thank you to our newest CASA members!

Hanover County’s newest class of Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) was sworn in by Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court Judge Shannon O. Hoehl on October 14. The newest CASA members are Ben Baughan, Matt Bley, Kendra Heimerich, Wanda Martin and Christine Stilwell. CASA volunteers advocate for the interests of abused and neglected children who are involved in cases being heard by the Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court. Last year, 29 children were served by volunteers who contributed nearly 1,027 hours of service to these youth. Thank you for your willingness to serve!
