Board of Supervisors meets tomorrow 

The Hanover Board of Supervisors meets at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 22. Dr. Michael Gill, Superintendent of Hanover County Public Schools, will give the Board an update on the beginning of the school year. Dennis Walter, County Attorney, will present a proposed amendment to the Board’s rules permitting remote participation for Board members in certain limited circumstances, and will also present the draft agenda for the 2022 session of the General Assembly for a Board workshop. There will be several public hearings on Planning cases, including a request by Roxanne and Lazardo Perdomo Et. Al. to rezone 35.65 acres on the north side of Old Keeton Road at its intersection with Rt. 1 to Single Family residential with conditions and limited industrial with conditions. The proposed zoning amendment would permit 76 single-family lots for a gross density of 2.4 dwelling units per acre on 32 acres and various light industrial uses on the remaining 3.62 acres. The Board’s meetings are videostreamed live and are archived here generally on Thursday afternoon.

Special program on growth and changes Thursday night

On Thursday, September 23, County Administrator John A. Budesky and former Hanover County Planning Director and Deputy County Administrator (and current Ashland Town Council member) John H. Hodges will participate in a moderated community conversation about changes in rural Hanover and looking ahead to the future. This program will be offered in the theater at Hanover Tavern at 7 p.m. It’s free but seating is limited. To make a reservation, email the Ashland Museum at [email protected]. This program is in connection with the Change in Rural America exhibition at the Hanover Museum of History and Culture, thanks to its partnership with the Ashland Museum. Masks are required inside the Tavern.  

Hanover AutumnFest

AutumnFest on Saturday

On Saturday, September 25, Hanover Tavern will hold its big fall event - the Hanover AutumnFest - from 10-3. The 6th annual Hanover AutumnFest presented by Anton Paar is the Hanover Tavern Foundation’s signature community event of the year. The Tavern grounds become the backdrop for a day of food, family fun, and live music. This event is part of Hanover County’s 300th birthday celebration!
