Big birthday event from 9:30-1 tomorrow
Hanover County will celebrate its 300th birthday tomorrow with a free public event at Hanover Courthouse. The event will feature live music, games for children, performances by Hanover Idol and Junior Idol winners and will begin with a ribbon cutting opening the new Hanover Museum of History & Culture. Called “Make History with Us”, the free family fun event will begin at 9:30 a.m. with the ribbon cutting and tours of the new Museum. Most of the events will take place on the lawn behind the historic Courthouse wall. The first 500 families to visit the County’s Welcome Table will receive gifts commemorating the occasion. Local businesses have also donated gifts to attendees and raffle drawings will take place periodically. Food, ice cream, lemonade and bottled water will be on hand as well as re-enactors from The Parson’s Cause, a famous case Patrick Henry argued in the historic Courthouse in the years leading up to the American Revolution. The Parson’s Cause actors will perform at 11 and 12 in the historic Courthouse, which is one of the oldest in America still in public use. All are invited to attend and celebrate Hanover’s birthday!
