May, Ikenberry appointed to School Board

Bob May and Steve Ikenberry were appointed by the Board of Supervisors Wednesday night to represent the South Anna District and Cold Harbor District, respectively, on the Hanover County School Board for the next four years. Mr. Ikenberry was a long-time teacher and coach at Lee-Davis High School and Mr. May is a business owner and retired U.S. Army lieutenant colonel. The nominations were made by South Anna Supervisor Sue Dibble and Cold Harbor Supervisor Michael Herzberg and unanimously approved by the Board.

Patrick Henry "militia" re-enactors at Scotchtown tomorrow

Special event at Patrick Henry's Scotchtown tomorrow

There will be a special family-friendly outdoor living history event at Scotchtown tomorrow from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Bring your family and experience a militia muster as it would have been like in 1775 with over 30 costumed interpreters and reenactors. The event dramatizes Patrick Henry’s rallying of 60 mounted volunteers from Hanover to go to Williamsburg in an incident leading up to the Revolutionary War. Cost is $5 per person or $10 per carload. Hanover County Veterans Memorial

County offices, solid waste centers, libraries closed on Monday

Hanover County government offices, solid waste convenience centers and branches of the Pamunkey Regional Library will be closed on Monday, May 31, in observance of Memorial Day. The Department of Parks & Recreation will offer a pre-recorded Memorial Day ceremony beginning Monday at 8 a.m. or you can visit their Facebook page. Hopefully next year we can resume our traditional in-person Memorial Day observances.

County government returning to normal operations Tuesday as Virginia lifts restrictions beginning tonight

At midnight tonight (Friday, May 28), the Commonwealth of Virginia will lift all distancing and capacity restrictions. As a result, Hanover County Government offices will return to normal capacity limits (including all meeting rooms) and operations when the offices re-open on Tuesday, June 1, following the upcoming Memorial Day holiday. Face coverings will still be required for all staff and visitors who are not fully vaccinated (a person is fully vaccinated two weeks after the final dose). If you have not received the vaccine, you are encouraged to find a convenient location.
