Community -  Resurrection Ministries- Food Volunteers
(Formerly Resurrection Disaster Relief)
On May 22nd, numerous volunteers will be needed as drivers (60) and bag packers. This will support the nonprofit's Grocery Outreach Ministry. Anyone willing to serve can see times and dates on the "Grocery Outreach" page at www.RDRServe.com. 


Community- Circles Ashland-Volunteer Overview

On Thursday, May 27th at 6:30 pm , Circles Ashland will be hosting an information session via Zoom. Opportunities are available to:
  • help provide meals
  • use your writing, graphic design, and/or social media skills to help educate about poverty
  • advocate locally, statewide, and nationally on behalf of your neighbors
  • work with children and youth to help broaden their world and break the cycle of generational poverty     Here is the link to Register . 

Community- Hanover Habitat- Can Recycle Day Volunteer 

On Tuesday, June 1, Hanover Habitat will be loading up a large truck of cans. They would love to add some volunteers to this work day. If you are 16 or older and don't mind getting your hands dirty, Email  them.

Community -  Resurrection Ministries- Home Repair Volunteers
Skilled labor continues to be a need for the Home Repair Ministry. Volunteers will be needed particularly after May's Grocery Outreach service date has been completed.

Community- All Souls Community Garden Volunteers
Help put the "Community" in the Garden!
The All-Souls Community Garden depends on the good hearts of volunteers to plant and harvest the vegetables. The Garden is located on Atlee Rd. in Mechanicsville. Items are shared with MCEF and other Mechanicsville food banks. Church and community groups as well as individuals are needed. Students in middle and high school, and even college ages are especially welcomed.  Garden lessons are available for younger children. Jobs include planting and picking produce, tilling, pulling weeds, washing and weighing produce, and delivery to food banks.

Hanover Habitat Home Repair Program

Hanover Habitat is accepting applications for repair work for homes that need to address health and safety issues or code violations. Due to COVID, they are only able to do exterior repairs at this time.  Targeted areas include homeowners within zip codes of 23111 and 23116.For more information or to apply  visit their website .

Two Housing Call Lines Available to Assist You

Reminder,  there are now two helpful resources within the region to help  persons with housing related questions or with eminent risk of homelessness (within 3 days):  
  • Homeless Connection Line (804-972-0813) is a specific call line staffed by Homeward and  partners from several other agencies to help connect resources for those who are homeless or at risk of homelessness with 3 days. available evenings and weekends ( Mon-Fri 8 am to 9pm; Sat & Sun 1pm to 9pm).  For more info visit Homeward - Get Help - Homeless Connection Line (HCL) (homewardva.org)
  • Housing Resource Line (804-422-5061)  which is a broader referral source for various housing/rental/homeowner questions. See details at Housing Hotline – PHA (pharva.com)

Hanover Safe Place Teen Program Launches 

Upstanding Youth: Advocates for a Healthy Hanover is a new teen leadership program designed to prevent teen dating violence and sexual assault by empowering teens and giving them the skills to create lasting change in their communities. Teens will learn about important social issues affecting their communities. They will then acquire facilitation skills to become leaders by developing a project to address one of these issues. This year-long program seeks to promote healthy relationships for all youth in Hanover. This program is free to join and is open to high school aged teens living in Hanover. Deadline to apply is   September 1st.  The application for the program is here. YMCA offers Health Navigator Service with "Aunt Bertha/Finding Help" Technology

Teresa Lopez de Ocanas is a Health Navigator for the YMCA who is available to help connect community members with local services.  She has bilingual skills.  You can submit the request for assistance via this link:

Hanover County Vaccine Clinic
For information on Clinic schedules, to make an appointment or ask additional questions, residents may call the Vaccine Call Center at 804-365-3240

Hanover DASH Transportation
Specialized Transportation is available to persons 60 and older and persons with short term or long term disabilities.  The service is offered by Hanover County with funding provided by the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation.  To learn more visit www.HanoverDASH.org or call 804-365-DASH (3274).

Open House for New Mobile Clinic in Ashland

On May 15 from Noon to 2pm there will be an open house for a new mobile clinic in the Ashland area. The Ashland YMCA and The Capital Health Express have partnered to bring mobile Health Clinic services to Ashland area.
(This is in addition and separate from services for adults provided the Hanover Interfaith Free Clinics)
Bilingual staff  are available to see adults and children.
Major medical insurance is accepted. Sliding fee scale available for those who are uninsured.
Hours of operation are Tuesdays  9-5pm and Wednesdays 10-7pm
Location: Ashland Junction 167 Junction Drive, Ashland.

First Baptist Church Ashland Hosts Vaccine Clinic

A pop-up vaccine clinic will be held at First Baptist Church of Ashland in partnership with Shiloh Baptist Church and the Health Department May 15th, 9:00am-3:00pm. Here is  the registration link with more info. The church is located at 800 Thompson St. Ashland Va , 23005.

The Church Food Pantry will also be open on that day from 9:00am-11:00am.

Hanover Habitat ReStore Vendor Fair - Get Shopping!

On Saturday, June 5 there will be a shopping event with a variety of vendors in the ReStore parking lot, located at 9159 Atlee Road in Mechanicsville.  This is addition to the 
 all the latest the latest deals at the ReStore.
 
Proceeds from the ReStore fund Hanover Habitat's mission to ensure everyone has a decent place to live. Vendor fees and special sale items throughout the ReStore will go towards the purchase of a new ReStore truck.
