Jay Brown appointed new Deputy County Administrator

Jay A. Brown Ph.D., has been appointed Deputy County Administrator for Administrative Services effective June 16. Dr. Brown has been the Director of the Department of Budget and Strategic Planning for the City of Richmond since 2014. “Dr. Brown has nearly 18 years of strong leadership experience in budget, finance and strategic planning in local government,” said County Administrator John A. Budesky, who chose Brown from a field of about 65 applicants. “He has comprehensive experience supervising staff and developing strong, collaborative relationships with administration, elected officials, regional local government partners, other departments and citizens. He also is a team player who is customer focused and is very familiar with Hanover County. We are very excited to have Jay join our team.” For the full story read here.

Board of Supervisors meets on Wednesday at 2 p.m.

On Wednesday, May 12, the Hanover Board of Supervisors will meet beginning at 2 p.m. Items on the agenda include a request for approval for a Memorandum of Understanding with the Washington Capitals pro hockey team and request for acceptance of a donation from the team. The Washington Capitals have offered to furnish, replace and install the rink as a donation to the County. Also, Deputy County Administrator Jim Taylor will update the Board on the status of COVID-19 vaccinations in the County and Linwood Thomas, Economic Development Director, will make a presentation on the Small Business Shop Local campaign. Board meetings are videostreamed live and the archived meeting is generally available the day after the meeting.

Wednesday night vaccination clinics for those 16 and older; walk-ins available too

The Chickahominy Health District now has doses of the Pfizer vaccine, which is approved for individuals ages 16 and older. Clinics focused on local high school students are now being offered every Wednesday evening from 5-7 p.m. at the County’s Ashland Junction vaccination site in the old Food Lion building. On Mondays and Fridays from 9:30-11:30 a.m. and from 1-3 p.m., individuals aged 18 or older who live and work in the Health District (Hanover, Charles City, New Kent, Goochland) can walk in and get their vaccine, no appointment needed. The Moderna vaccine is currently being administered at these times.
