Hanover–Caroline  SWCD develops new virtual series

Hanover–Caroline  SWCD has developed a new virtual series, Discover Your Watershed, aimed at individual neighborhoods within District boundaries that share a watershed address.
The three-part webinar series begins with a local watershed overview using maps to follow the journey of runoff from the neighborhood to Chesapeake Bay; a discussion of residents' conservation concerns on their own property, and an overview of the Water-Wise Home Challenge.
Any Hanover resident may earn the Water-Wise Home garden flag by taking the Water-Wise Home Challenge. Is your home "Water-Wise"?
The second webinar is devoted to understanding the community's soils, preventing erosion, and two ideas for the residential landscape: conservation landscaping and rain gardens.
The third and final webinar focuses on Virginia's native plants, why they are a better choice, and finally an overview of the popular Landscaping with Virginia Natives series.
To schedule the FREE Discover Your Watershed series for your community, faith-based organization, or civic group, please contact District education specialist, Karen Fetty at 804-537-3025 or [email protected]

COVID-19 Vaccine

Hanover County Vaccination Center Makes Continued Progress

As of today, there have been more than 40,000 COVID-19 vaccinations administered to Hanover County residents.  This number is almost 40% of the county’s total population of about 107,000.  Of that 40,000 about 27,000 have received their first dose and about 15,000 have been fully vaccinated.
The Hanover County Vaccination Center, located in Ashland, has been operating five to six days per week and administering around 1,000 vaccines per day.
The county plans to keep the vaccination center open until everyone in the county who would like a vaccine receives one.  Virginia Department of Health maintains a dashboard listing the total number of vaccinations administered by locality.  More information about the COVID-19 vaccine, as well as how to pre-register, can be found here.  Vaccination clinics are by appointment only, no walk-ins will be taken.
