Davis, Kelly-Wiecek to lead Board of Supervisors in 2021

On Wednesday afternoon, Sean Davis of the Henry District was elected to serve as Chairman of the Board of Supervisors in 2021. Angela Kelly-Wiecek of the Chickahominy District will be the Board’s Vice Chair in 2021. Outgoing chairman Aubrey M. “Bucky” Stanley was presented with a plaque honoring him for his six terms as Chairman. “I’ll cherish this for a long time,” he said. The Board’s next meeting will be on January 27 and it will begin at 6 p.m. Public hearings on January 27 will begin at 7 p.m. as advertised. As part of its reorganization for 2021, the Board changed its meeting times to 2 p.m. on the second Wednesday of the month. On the fourth Wednesdays beginning in February, public hearings could be held as early as 6 p.m.

Hanover plans to open COVID-19 vaccination clinic

John A. Budesky, County Administrator, presented to the Board of Supervisors on January 13 a plan to expand and create new Hanover County COVID-19 vaccine clinics. The new clinic(s) would have the goal of providing COVID-19 vaccinations to 1,000 additional people a day, in collaboration with the Chickahominy Health District and other regional vaccine initiatives. Details of the plan, including a location or locations, needs to be finalized, but Budesky envisioned the clinic continuing “until every resident who wants a vaccine gets a vaccine, or until there is sufficient availability in the marketplace.” For more information read here.

Health Districts to Begin Phase 1b Vaccinating Monday

The local health districts of the Richmond Metropolitan Area (Chesterfield, Chickahominy, Henrico, and Richmond) will begin expanding their COVID-19 vaccination campaigns to include some Phase 1b frontline essential workers on Monday, January 18. Specifically, workers in the first three categories of Phase 1b, will now be eligible to receive COVID-19 vaccines. CARES Act Housing and Food Resources still available for Hanover residents

Limited funds remain to assist Hanover residents who are facing challenges with mortgage, rent, utility or food expenses due to the coronavirus national emergency. This assistance is available through the end of February or until funds are depleted. Ashland Christian Emergency Services (ACES), HumanKind and Western Hanover Emergency Action Team (WHEAT) are the community partners managing the assistance. For the full story read here.
