Opportunity on Saturday to recycle your electronic waste

On Saturday, November 7, Hanover County will host an e-waste recycling event at the Mechanicsville Solid Waste Convenience Center at 7427 Verdi Lane from 8 a.m. to 12 noon. This event is for Hanover County residents only (ID required). No business generated material will be accepted. For details read here

Sheriff’s Office offers “Shred Identity Theft” on Saturday

The Hanover Sheriff’s Office will hold a “Shred Identity Theft!” event on Saturday, November 7, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the parking lot of the Rutland Kroger, 9351 Atlee Road in the Rutland Shopping Center. First come, first served, and when the truck is full the event will end. Please bring a non-perishable food item for the local food banks. This event is co-sponsored by the Rotary Club of Mechanicsville and the Hanover-Ashland Triad.

Construction of new Airport Terminal about to begin

Yesterday the Board of Supervisors and Hanover Airport Committee broke ground on the site of the future new terminal building on the east side of the airport. This building, funded mostly by the Virginia Department of Aviation, will include a number of amenities such as conference room facilities, a pilot lounge and flight planning areas. Just over 100 aircraft are based at the Hanover Airport, which has been in operation since 1969. It is designed for mid-size corporate jets. Speaking were County Administrator John A. Budesky; Ashland District Supervisor Faye O. Prichard; Mark K. Flynn, Director of the VDOA; and Jackie Dankos, Chairman of the Hanover County Airport Advisory Committee.

New Pickleball Courts Open at Pole Green Park

The wait is over and the new four-court pickleball complex is now open at Pole Green Park. Yesterday Sean Davis, Vice Chair of the Board of Supervisors, and Greg Sager, Parks and Recreation Director, welcomed pickleball enthusiasts from Hanover and surrounding areas for the official “opening of the gate” and inaugural play on the courts. The courts are near the shelter, dog park and equestrian ring. Upon entering Pole Green Park, visitors can take the first right and following the road to the parking lot to find the new pickleball courts. Courts will be open year round from dawn to dusk daily. Pole Green Park is located at 8996 Pole Green Park Lane in Mechanicsville. Tours of historic Courthouse resume Tuesday

"Hear Ye, Hear Ye... the Hanover County Historical Society is pleased to announce that the Old Courthouse will now be open for tours beginning Tuesday, November 10, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with Society Docents, and will continue as originally scheduled for the second Tuesday of each month. Please come prepared and observe the protocols for facial coverings (masks and social distancing) and social distancing. ...and just in time for the upcoming holiday season.
