Prescription Drug Take-Back event Saturday

The Hanover County Sheriff’s Office, in cooperation with the Ashland Police Department and Hanover County Public Works, will be conducting a Prescription Drug Take-Back Day on Saturday, Oct. 24, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This event is sponsored by the Drug Enforcement Administration- Office of Diversion Control. The Mechanicsville Convenience Center, 7427 Verdi Ln, Mechanicsville, VA 23116, and the Ashland Police Department, 601 England St, Ashland, VA 23005, have been established as collection sites. You are invited to bring any potentially dangerous expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs for disposal (no liquids, needles or sharps, only pills or patches). The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked.

Registrar’s Office open on Saturday for early voting

The Hanover County Voter Registration and Elections Office will have special Saturday hours on October 24 and October 31 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. for in-person early voting for the November 3 election. Saturday, Oct. 31, will be the last day you can vote early. Early voting takes place in the Wickham Building at Hanover County, 7497 County Complex Road, Hanover VA 23069. Curbside voting is always available during office hours. Also, ballots can be dropped in the ballot drop box located on the northeast side of the Wickham Building. This drop box is available 24 hours a day and is under surveillance during active voting. Friday, October 23 is the last day to request a voting by mail ballot to be mailed to you. Applications can be completed at www.elections.virginia.gov or you can request an application by calling our office. To complete the process online, the voter must provide their DMV ID (driver’s license) AND social security number. If the voter chooses to download and use a paper form, it must be signed and mailed to the Hanover County Department of Elections P.O. Box 419 Hanover, VA 23069 or emailed to [email protected]

Pole Green Road community information meeting on October 27

Hanover County will be holding a citizen information meeting on Tuesday, October 27, 2020, to present preliminary plans for the proposed widening of Pole Green Rd between Bell Creek Road and Rural Point Road. The meeting will be at 7:00 p.m. in the Board of Supervisors meeting room in the Hanover County Administration Building, 7516 County Complex Road, Hanover, Va. The full story can be read here.
