Hanover County joins with United Way to provide direct assistance to those in need

In response to the personal financial crisis that many residents are facing due to the impact of COVID-19,  Hanover County is working with community partners to provide direct assistance to those in need.  Hanover County has partnered with United Way of Greater Richmond & Petersburg to distribute up to $500,000 in funding to eligible 501c3 organizations which provide emergency financial (housing and utility)  and/or food resources to Hanover residents.  The funds have been made available by the Hanover County Board of Supervisors from the County’s Coronavirus Relief Funds under the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act. All funds must be expended by December 30, 2020. Nonprofit agencies do not have to already be in the United Way network to receive funding.

Libraries provide free lock and talk supplies to patrons

Pamunkey Regional Library branches located in Hanover County are providing free medication lock boxes, gun cable locks, drug disposal kits and safety literature to patrons thanks to a unique partnership with the Hanover County Community Services Board (CSB) and Hanover Cares. The CSB, Hanover’s public mental health provider, is participating in Lock & Talk, a statewide campaign that encourages Virginians to practice medication and gun safety, and talk about mental health to reduce stigma and prevent suicide.
