Atlee Library to open Saturday with ceremony

Hanover County, in partnership with Pamunkey Regional Library and the Friends of the Atlee Branch Library, will have a Grand Opening of the new library branch on Saturday, August 29, at 9:30 a.m. Immediately following the ribbon cutting ceremony, all will be invited to come inside to explore on your own, join a staff guided tour, or enjoy digital storytimes.  Gift bags for adults and teens and take-n-make kits for children available while supplies last. The new Atlee Branch Library, designed by Quinn Evans and constructed by Loughridge Construction, is a 20,000 sq. ft. facility that offers everything the library had before plus additional study spaces, a digital media lab, large conference and meeting spaces and creative gathering spaces. Please remember to wear your face covering and practice social distancing.

Board approves special exception permit for temporary cell phone tower

The Board of Supervisors approved the use of a 96-foot temporary communication tower and appurtenances at the site of the New Highland Baptist Church tower that was destroyed by fire a couple of months ago, hampering cell phone service in the area. The structure will remain until the church bell tower is reconstructed and new telecommunication equipment is ready to be utilized, which may take about 12 months. A Cellular On Wheels tower has temporarily been placed on the property to minimize the disruption of cellular service to the area.
