Community: Circles Ashland-Learning Hub Volunteers

Adult volunteers, age 21 or older are needed to assist with learning hub virtual learning and tutoring program for children connected with the Circles Ashland program. Shifts are flexible from 8:15 to 3pm Monday, Tuesdays and Wednesday. Duties include assisting with technology difficulties of students, supervision/program support and tutor assistance as needed.  Location is in Ashland area.  To express interest or learn more contact Elissa Hamon at [email protected].  

Community: Wings of Hope Ranch Volunteers

Teens (13 +) and adults are invited to begin the on-boarding and  training process  to serve this winter 2020 and Spring 2021. The first step is to attend the Guest Tour (30 min) which is followed by the Volunteer Orientation (45 min) if you decide to take the next step after the tour. The date and time is Wednesday, September 23, 4:30 - 5:45 pm. Masks required and format is set up for socially distancing during the event. Hanover CARES Act Grant Funds for Nonprofits      

Hanover County has partnered with United Way of Greater Richmond & Petersburg to distribute funding to eligible 501c3 organizations which provide emergency financial (housing and utility)  and/or food resources to Hanover residents.  The funds have been made available by the Hanover County Board of Supervisors from the County’s Coronavirus Relief Funds under the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act. 

Administration of the organization applications and sub grantee fund reporting will be coordinated by United Way of Greater Richmond & Petersburg.  Funds must be used for direct assistance to individuals or families in need of housing related financial assistance (including mortgage, rent or utilities) or those in need of food/nutrition assistance.  Organization applications will be accepted on a rolling basis until all funds are distributed. Organizations must maintain administrative documentation and reporting details related to service provision. All funds must be expended by December 30, 2020. Nonprofit agencies do not have to already be in the United Way network to receive funding.

Hanover DASH Celebrates 6-Month Anniversary with "Gifts of 6" Continuing until End of September

On June 12th Hanover DASH celebrated 6 months of continuous operation, despite the impact of COVID-19.  This service provides invaluable transportation to medical appointments, grocery stores, errands, and formal social programs for those 60+ and persons with a disability

To thank its loyal riders and to encourage new riders to “test ride” the service, Hanover DASH is offering the following enhancements as a pilot program:

  • “No Co-Pay Period” – Hanover DASH is  waiving the $6.00 trip fee on all trips requested and occurring between June 12 to Sept 30th.

  • Expanded hours of operation:   6 AM to 6 PM  Monday through Saturday

  • Employment Transportation is now an eligible Trip Type

  • Service Area now includes medical facilities at Stony Point

All riders must be registered before utilizing the service which includes transportation throughout the county and within a 7 mile area beyond the county boarder.  Service also includes transportation to Hunter Holmes McGuire VA Medical Center and all Hanover County government buildings.  As noted, the program is further expanding to include added medical facilities at Stony Point.

A short registration form and documentation is required to confirm proof as resident of Hanover county, and age of 60 or over, or short term/ long term disability.

Hanover Human Services Network Meeting

Faith-based organization, civic clubs and human service agencies and programs are invited to Join us via Webex for our next quarterly Human Services Network Meeting to be held on Thursday, October 1, 2020 at 3:00 to 5:00pm.  This is your opportunity to update fellow service providers regarding current program operations and needs.  Each participate will have an opportunity to share their program updates, our agenda will also include discussion  with  a United Way representative related to the Basic Needs Grant mentioned above and preparations for “Making Holidays Bright”!

Moments of Hope- Drive Thru Food Drive

The public is invited to donate nonperishable food items at the Mo Hope Pantry during its' Drive-Thru Food Drive. Food will be removed from your vehicle by volunteers.
