Nomination Deadline for Jean Harris Awards
In 2000, the Hanover County Community Services Board established an annual award in the name of long time board member, community volunteer and advocate, Jean C. Harris. The Jean C. Harris Award for Excellence has been given annually to Hanover-based individuals, families or groups that demonstrate outstanding contribution in the areas of intellectual/developmental disabilities, mental health, and/or substance use. Acknowledging that many individuals, families and groups in Hanover are making a difference in these areas, up to three awards will be given this year. Nominations for those contributing in these areas in a professional capacity will be considered with clear demonstration that their service goes above and beyond their professional duty. The Nomination Form is available here. Nominations are due by 5:00 p.m. on August 10, 2020.

[email protected] Hanover DASH Celebrates 6-Month Anniversary with "Gifts of 6" Now Through End of September
On June 12th Hanover DASH celebrated 6 months of continuous operation, despite the impact of COVID-19. This service provides invaluable transportation to medical appointments, grocery stores, errands, and formal social programs for those 60+ and persons with a disability
To thank its loyal riders and to encourage new riders to “test ride” the service, Hanover DASH is offering the following enhancements as a pilot program:
“No Co-Pay Period” – Hanover DASH is waiving the $6.00 trip fee on all trips requested and occurring between June 12 to Sept 30th.
Expanded hours of operation: 6 AM to 6 PM Monday through Saturday
Employment Transportation is now an eligible Trip Type
Service Area now includes medical facilities at Stony Point
All riders must be registered before utilizing the service which includes transportation throughout the county and within a 7 mile area beyond the county boarder. Service also includes transportation to Hunter Holmes McGuire VA Medical Center and all Hanover County government buildings. As noted, the program is further expanding to include added medical facilities at Stony Point.
A short registration form and documentation is required to confirm proof as resident of Hanover county, and age of 60 or over, or short term/ long term disability.

Social Services Cooling Assistance
Applications for help with your cooling bills or equipment needs are accepted online https://commonhelp.virginia.gov/access/ , by calling the Enterprise Customer Service Center at (855) 635 –
4370, and at your local department of social services from June 15 through August 15.
Cooling assistance provides purchase or repair of cooling equipment and/or payment for electricity to operate cooling equipment. To be eligible, a household must contain at least one vulnerable individual who is age 60 or over, is living with a disability, or is under age 6.

Hanover's Spirit of Volunteerism Virtual Awards Celebration
As many of you know, Hanover's Spirit of Volunteerism nomination process concluded during the onset of the pandemic, as a result, our judging process was placed on hold and our Celebration in May was later canceled.
That never diminished resolve to highlight the good work of our award nominees and to announce our Award Honorees. Our plans are underway for a virtual recognition of our community’s collective contributions through volunteer engagement!! We will be celebrating Hanover's Spirit of Volunteerism Week 2020 later this September. keep an eye out for details.
