Board to hold public hearing tonight on proposed budget; opportunities for citizen engagement

Due to a problem with the County’s hosted website solution, the HAN regarding tonight’s public hearing that was sent out on Friday did not arrive in mailboxes until today. The Board of Supervisors will hold its public hearing on the proposed Fiscal year 2021 budget and related items at 7 p.m. tonight. Given the current restrictions on public gatherings and need for social distancing, Hanover County is asking that all who wish to speak on these matters provide their comments online or on the phone. Comments will be collected in the following manner:

  • By phone, you can leave your comment on the budget by calling 365-3333. A limit of three minutes per comment will be observed. This phone line will be active until the beginning of the Board meeting.
  • You also can email your comments to [email protected]

All comments will be shared with the Board and published in summary in the minutes of the April 1 Board meeting. If necessary, you may attend the public hearing in person, but social distancing and limitations on the number of people in the Board Room at any one time will be observed.  These guidelines are subject to change at any time pending recommendations from health officials.

County park playgrounds, picnic shelters, historic sites and Pole Green Skate Park closed

In an effort to take necessary steps to protect our community, Hanover Parks and Recreation has closed or cancelled the following until further notice: all permitted use of athletic fields, picnic shelters and historic sites, park playgrounds and Pole Green Park skate park. Additionally, all department-sponsored programs and activities are cancelled through Sunday, May 17. At this time, Hanover County parks remain open, including open spaces, trails and dog parks. Be advised that the amenities in these areas are not sanitized, so use with caution and follow the CDC health and safety guidelines. We reiterate the critical importance of social distancing and avoidance of gatherings and group activities. Contact Hanover County Parks and Recreation with questions at [email protected] or (804) 365-7150.
