Sterling Daniel named to School Board

Sterling Daniel is the Mechanicsville District’s new representative on the Hanover County School Board. He was appointed by the Board of Supervisors on Wednesday, after being nominated by Mechanicsville Supervisor Canova Peterson. Daniel is Director of Finance for the College of Humanities and Sciences at Virginia Commonwealth University. He had previously worked for the Virginia Department of Planning and Budget and Virginia Department of Education.  A native of Hanover County of Mechanicsville, Daniel described himself as “just a parent who is willing to serve. “I look forward to getting involved immediately,” he told the Board. The School Board next meets in April.

Regional preparation intensifies for COVID-19; hotline set up

Hanover County and other metro-Richmond localities as well as the Central Virginia Healthcare Coalition are intensifying their coordinated preparations to deal with COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2. The number of cases reported in Virginia was 17 as of this afternoon, and the governor has declared a State of Emergency. Citizens with questions can call the Health Department’s Medical Reserve Corps COVID-19 hotline at 1-877-ASK-VDH3.   If the person answering the phone cannot answer your question directly, you could be referred to the main health district line at 804-365-4313.  For more information visit The Virginia Department of Health or the or the Centers for Disease Control.  

Spirit of Volunteerism

Monday is nomination deadline for volunteerism awards

Hanover’s Spirit of Volunteerism awards highlight the contributions and dedication of local volunteers who help make Hanover such a great place to live.  The Department of Community Resources is seeking nominations. The nomination deadline is Monday, March 16. All nominees will be recognized and award recipients will be announced at the Spirit of Volunteerism Celebration on Tuesday, May 5 at 7 p.m. at Lee-Davis High School.
