Stanley, Davis to lead Board of Supervisors in 2020

Aubrey M. “Bucky” Stanley of the Beaverdam District was elected Chairman of the Board of Supervisors in 2020 by his colleagues on Wednesday. Stanley was elected to his 10th term in office in November and is serving as Chairman for the 6th time. Sean Davis of the Cold Harbor District is the Board’s Vice Chairman for 2020.

Sheriff’s Office receives traffic safety award

The Sheriff’s Office received the 2019 Law Enforcement Challenge Award from the Virginia Association of Chiefs of Police (VACP) on Wednesday. Dana Schrad, Executive Director of VACP, presented the award to Colonel David R. Hines, Sheriff, and Sgt. David Parrish of the Traffic Safety Unit. The Sheriff’s Office received first place in the state for Traffic Safety among sheriff’s offices with 151 or more deputies. The award recognizes the office’s efforts to improve traffic safety using such strategies as checkpoints, child seat checks, educational events, participation in Virginia’s Click-It-or-Ticket program and specialized patrols. 

Dr. Roberson to speak Wednesday night

Dr. Stewart Roberson, former superintendent of Hanover County Public Schools, will give a History Talk at the Ashland Arts and Activities Center on Wednesday night, Jan. 15, at 7 p.m. His subject will be “Building a Successful Public School District – A Historical Perspective.” This will be a look at how events in Hanover’s history led to the success of today’s school district. The event is sponsored by the Ashland Museum.
