[ARCHIVED] Hanover Residents Asked to Observe Water Conservation Measures

Hanover County and other localities in the Richmond Metro area are asking area residents to voluntarily conserve water due to lower water flows in the James River.  Flows in the James River are less than normal due to the recent lack of rain.  A little more than 60% of the water Hanover County provides its customers is taken from the James River.

Voluntary conservation helps the Richmond region meet the water needs of all customers while protecting the James River and meeting the requirements of the James River Regional Flow Management Plan.

Under voluntary conservation residents and businesses are asked to conserve water whenever possible and to only water their lawns per the following schedule:

  • Monday no watering
  • Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, odd-numbered property addresses may water
  • Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, even-numbered property addresses may water

Some additional conservation tips may be found at vdh.virginia.gov.
