Hanover County is reducing the copay cost for riders who use the Hanover DASH specialized transportation program from $6 to $5 per ride. Operation hours for the program are expanding to seven days a week effective Sunday, Oct. 1.

“We are making every effort to provide a quality transportation program and make it as affordable as possible to our riders while also ensuring long-term sustainability,” said Susan D. Richards, Hanover DASH Program Manager for the Department of Community Resources.

Hanover DASH provides personalized transportation to medical appointments, grocery stores, errands, employment and formal social programs for residents 65 years and older as well as the disabled.

Rides are available from 6 a.m. – 6 p.m. Monday - Sunday. Destinations can be anywhere in Hanover County or within seven miles of the county boundary. Residents can also receive rides to medical facilities beyond the 7-mile buffer, such as the Richmond VA Medical Center and the medical offices at Stony Point.

Currently 724 riders are registered for the program, but new registrations are welcome. To apply to be a Hanover DASH rider, residents must fill out a short registration form with documentation to confirm Hanover County residency and proof of age (65 or over) or disability (short or long term). Rides are offered in collaboration with UZURV, an adaptive transportation network company.
