Early voting begins on Monday for 9th District special election

Early voting for the March 28 Special Election to fill the unexpired term for the 9th District, Senate of Virginia, will begin on Monday, March 6th. Eligible to vote are ONLY voters in the following precincts – Ashland 101; Berkley 105; Oak Hill 210 and Elmont 704.

If you are registered to vote in one of these precincts, you may request your vote by mail ballot or visit the Voter Registration and Elections Office in the Wickham Building at Hanover Courthouse from 8:30 a.m.- 5:00 p.m. Monday-Friday. Early voting will also be available at this location on Saturday, March 18 and Saturday, March 25 from 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.  Curbside voting is available for handicapped and voters over the age of 65 during early voting hours.

Saturday, March 25 is the last day to vote an In-person absentee ballot for this special election.

Tuesday, March 21 is the deadline to register or make changes to your voter registration in time for the this special election. Please check your voter registration to make sure it is correct by visiting  

Friday, March 17 is the final day you can request an absentee ballot by mail.  Your request must be received by your General Registrar by 5:00 p.m.

Monday, March 27 at 2:00 p.m. is the cut-off for voting an emergency-only absentee ballot in the Voter Registration and Elections Office.

Tuesday, March 28 -  Election Day ONLY polling locations: 101 Ashland, 105 Berkley, 210 Oak Hill and 704 Elmont will be open from 6:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. Due to the construction of John M. Gandy Elementary School at 201 Archie Cannon Drive, Ashland, Voting Precinct 105 Berkley will be relocated to the Ashland Fire Station #1 located at 501 Archie Cannon Drive, Ashland VA 23005.

Wednesday, March 29 at 1:00 p.m. the Electoral Board will hold the canvass meeting to ascertain the election results and to rule on Provisional ballots cast. Friday, March 31 at 12:00 p.m. (noon) the deadline to cure your Absentee Ballot.

Friday, March 31 at 1:00 p.m. the Electoral Board will reconvene.

The ballot drop-off station at the Wickham building of the Hanover County Government Complex will be available on Monday, March 6 and remain available until Tuesday, March 28 at 7:00 p.m. and on Election Day in the polling locations.
