[ARCHIVED] REC informs Hanover of work beginning for broadband project

Hanover County received the following letter from Rappahannock Electric Cooperative staff on January 27, 2023.  We are sharing this information with our citizens who might see REC worker and truck activity in areas where All Points Broadband will ultimately be installing brand new fiber lines as part of Hanover County’s ‘Connect Hanover’ initiative.  As mentioned in their letter, should you have any questions regarding your eligibility for the broadband project, please visit www.allpointsbroadband.com and fill in their survey.  County staff is available to assist as well, 804-365-6000, [email protected]

Dear Rappahannock Electric Cooperative Member-Owner,

Rappahannock Electric Cooperative (REC) has partnered with All Points Broadband (APB) in bringing fiber-to-the-home broadband to REC members residing in parts of Hanover County. This broadband project is funded in part by Hanover County and the Virginia Telecommunication Initiative (VATI). APB will use REC’s existing infrastructure and lease fiber from REC’s Fiber Utility Network which was built to connect its substations, towers, and offices.

One of APB’s contractors, Timmons Group, is performing the make-ready engineering and design process for fiber installation in your area. You may have already seen authorized survey crews and you will begin seeing additional, authorized contractors in your area and on your property conducting pole-by-pole surveys to determine what preparations to existing facilities are needed for fiber installation.

Once the engineering and design process is complete, construction crews will perform necessary make-ready tasks to overhead electric & communications facilities, such as: repositioning transformers, adding anchors to the ground near the poles, and in some cases replacing poles.

Fiber construction is a complex and lengthy process. If you are eligible for internet service with APB, notice of service availability will be sent to you approximately 90 days in advance. To determine your eligibility for the VATI broadband project, please visit www.allpointsbroadband.com  and respond to all survey questions.

Sincerely,
