New Fire Station approved for Mechanicsville area

The Board of Supervisors has approved Hanover Fire Station 17, which will be on the south side of Laurel Meadow School Road, just west of Lee-Davis Road, adjacent to the Laurel Meadow Elementary School.

The budget adopted for Fiscal Year 2023 by the Board of Supervisors includes $11 million for the new Station. The engineering and architectural stage of the process has begun and is expected to take about 6 months, with construction potentially beginning next summer. The County’s goal is to complete the new Fire Station by the Fall of 2024.

“This represents a joint effort between departments and County Administration and a tremendous amount of work among the Board members,” said Sean Davis of the Henry District, where the station will be located. “This was an area where we needed to be and I am proud to support it. The design is phenomenal.”

“A lot of work was put into this project over the past several years and, once complete, our Fire and EMS professionals will be able to better serve our citizens and businesses in the vicinity of the station,” said Deputy County Administrator Todd Kilduff.  “Response times can be a challenge for our first responders, and we have proved that this new Fire Station will significantly lower response times in the area.”

Twelve firefighter positions have been designated for the station. Until the new station is built, they will be addressing calls out of the Mechanicsville Fire Station #7.

More information on this project can be read on the Hanover Fire/EMS page at www.hanovercounty.gov/1207/Proposed-Fire-Station-17.
