[ARCHIVED] Board seeks nominations for Mechanicsville District School Board seat

UPDATE: The April 13, 2022 edition of the Mechanicsville Local incorrectly listed the Beaverdam District for the appointment of school board members. Please be aware, the correct district is Mechanicsville.

Notice is hereby given that the Hanover County Board of Supervisors has set Wednesday, April 27, 2002 at 6:00 P.M., in the Board Room of the Hanover County Administration Building at Hanover Courthouse, 7516 County Complex Road, Hanover, Virginia, as the day, date, time, and place for a public hearing on the appointment of school board members for the Mechanicsville District, in accordance with Section 22.1-29.1 of the Code of Virginia. All persons desiring to nominate or support candidates for this position may appear at the above time and place.

The Hanover County Board of Supervisors is seeking nominations for the School Board seat representing the Mechanicsville District.

School Board members are appointed by the Board of Supervisors to serve four-year terms. Each of Hanover’s seven election districts has a member on the School Board, which sets policy for the Hanover County Public School system.

The Board of Supervisors will hold a public hearing on Wednesday, April 27. The meeting begins at 6 p.m. Any person who wishes to be considered for a School Board seat must have their name placed in nomination at that meeting. Interested individuals may nominate themselves or can be nominated by others. Those who seek the position are invited to speak on their own behalf and have supporters speak for them. You must live within the Mechanicsville magisterial district in order to serve in this position.

Canova Peterson is the Supervisor representing the Mechanicsville District. He can be reached at [email protected] or (804) 338-1448.  Questions may also be sent to the Office of the County Administrator at [email protected] or (804) 365-6005.

After nominations have been submitted, Mr. Peterson will interview candidates and make a recommendation to the full Board of Supervisors. The Board is expected to appoint the Mechanicsville School Board representative at its meeting on Wednesday, May 25.
