The Hanover County Board of Supervisors is seeking nominations for the School Board seat representing the Mechanicsville District.
School Board members are appointed by the Board of Supervisors to serve four-year terms. Each of Hanover’s seven election districts has a member on the School Board, which sets policy for the Hanover County Public School system.
The Board of Supervisors will hold a public hearing on Wednesday, April 27. The meeting begins at 6 p.m. Any person who wishes to be considered for a School Board seat must have their name placed in nomination at that meeting. Interested individuals may nominate themselves or can be nominated by others. Those who seek the position are invited to speak on their own behalf and have supporters speak for them. You must live within the Mechanicsville magisterial district in order to serve in this position.
Canova Peterson is the Supervisor representing the Mechanicsville District. He can be reached at [email protected] or (804) 338-1448. Questions may also be sent to the Office of the County Administrator at [email protected] or (804) 365-6005.
After nominations have been submitted, Mr. Peterson will interview candidates and make a recommendation to the full Board of Supervisors. The Board is expected to appoint the Mechanicsville School Board representative at its meeting on Wednesday, May 25.
