The Department seeks the public input on the naming of the property.
Over the past few months, the Parks and Recreation Advisory Commission have met publically to discuss potential names for the park. Through public suggestions, historical information gathered from the area and proximity of the park to other landmarks, the following names have been selected:
- Mattaquin Park
- Ellyson’s Park
- Rockhill Park
- East End Park
- Black Creek Park
The park is located just south of Rockhill Road (Route 619) on the east side of Cold Harbor Road (Route 156). The park will be built in two phases. Phase I includes: 6 (six) irrigated multipurpose fields, and a picnic pavilion with restrooms. Phase II include: Lighting of the multipurpose fields, playground, a hardcourt area for pickleball, maintenance shop and trails.
To vote on the park name, the Department has chosen to use Survey Monkey. To anonymously cast your vote:
https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/NewParkName
Or you may cast your vote in person at the Hanover Tomato Festival, Saturday, July 8. Go to the Tomato Sales tent at the festival and a voting box will be on hand. Plus, you’ll see a full artist rendering of the park plan, a staff member to answer any questions, and a ballot to cast your anonymous vote. Voting closes on Friday, July 28.
This is an exciting endeavor for the Parks and Recreation Department and we look forward to the public input on this next county amenity. For questions, please call Parks and Recreation at (804) 365-7150 or email at [email protected].
