[ARCHIVED] Board of Supervisors to hold public hearing on redistricting plan December 8

By the end of this year, the Board of Supervisors and other governing bodies of localities throughout the Commonwealth are required to adopt a plan to reapportion population in election districts so that they remain approximately equal. Details about Hanover’s proposed plan can be read on this page.

The proposal advanced for Hanover’s election districts would change the election districts of 3.4% of the County’s 2020 population of about 110,000. The recommended plan maintains the overall total number of voting precincts at 36. Twenty-one precincts would be modified, with two precincts being eliminated and two precincts being created. New polling places are also being considered in some precincts.

Election district redistricting has no effect on school district boundaries.

The Attorney General must approve the plan the Board adopts on December 8.

A State of Virginia redistricting process is also underway and could require future adjustments to Hanover’s plan.
