[ARCHIVED] Pamunkey Regional Jail reports COVID-19 outbreak

Testing results of about half of the population incarcerated at the Pamunkey Regional Jail has found that 124 of 178 offenders has tested positive for the coronavirus, COVID-19.

Of the 129 staff at the jail, 20 have tested positive for COVID-19.

Pamunkey Regional Jail and the Hanover Health Department reported the results on September 9 in a press conference. The testing took place on September 7.

The results of some tests are pending, and in one case not conclusive.

To date, no staff or offenders have been hospitalized and there have been no deaths. Less than 12% of offenders reported having any symptoms whatsoever. Of those who did, only minor symptoms were reported. Similar symptoms were reported by staff as well.
