Hanover County Government will continue to make food kits available to the community during the week of May 18th. Meals will be distributed Monday, Wednesday and Friday at John Gandy Elementary School and Mechanicsville Elementary School and on Monday and Wednesday at South Anna Elementary and Beaverdam Elementary School. All dates are subject to supply availability. The pre-packaged food kits will be available between 11 a.m.-1 p.m. on each of these days.
This is a separate and distinct food program from the one being offered to children by Hanover County Public Schools.
The Hanover Education Foundation, working in partnership with Hanover County Government and Hanover County Public Schools, received funding for this purpose from the Central Virginia COVID-19 Response Fund. These meals supplement the student meal program and the work of many food pantries and churches.
Those who need food will be able to drive through designated lanes at the school to pick up the kits, with as little human contact as possible for health reasons. Kits include a ready to eat entrée such as chicken salad, tuna salad, or BBQ beef, a tortilla, bag of chips, granola bar, trail mix, cookie, fruit roll up, and juice box.
“The Hanover Education Foundation has been honored to be a part of the Central Virginia Covid-19 Response Fund,” said Margaret P. Hill, Executive Director of the Hanover Education Foundation. “We cannot thank the Community Foundation enough for making these funds possible. It is always a pleasure to partner with Hanover County Government and other Hanover County organizations. Together we made this feeding program a success for our families in Hanover.”
