Hanover County is asking for the support of all citizens that use the solid waste convenience centers. Residents should only use the centers to dispose of waste for essential needs. Extremely high usage from home cleaning projects and other activities are causing supply chain problems and could result in shutdowns because of the heavy volume. Hauling to and disposal at landfills are limiting factors and are expected to get worse. Please limit your trips and consolidate loads.
Avoid bringing yard waste at this time (for-hire brush disposal is not allowed.) Reuse areas are closed; Goodwill has reduced hours for its drop-offs at Elmont and Mechanicsville (Verdi Lane) to 9:30 a.m.-6 p.m.
Please cover your loads to avoid litter on the highways and try to arrive by 6 p.m. Finally, remember the Centers are for Hanover County residents only. No businesses and out-of-County users are permitted.
Be respectful and maintain a distance of at least 6 feet from all staff and other users. With your cooperation, we can avoid a possible shutdown of service.
In addition, the two special events scheduled for April which included household hazardous waste, electronic waste, and paper shredding have been canceled.
